Daily Grind Supports Project HOPE

(September 27, 2005) MILLWOOD, VA. – Project HOPE, an international health education and humanitarian assistance organization, and the Winchester Headquartered Coffee House Franchise Daily Grind today announced an enhanced partnership to address the growing health needs facing coffee communities in Guatemala, Nicaragua and Indonesia.

Through the partnership Daily Grind will re-introduce Plantation Blend, a special blend of Fair Trade coffees from Guatemala, Nicaragua and Indonesia. Daily Grind will donate $4 from every ¾ pound bag sold to Project HOPE to support programs that improve health for women and children in these coffee-growing regions. The Project HOPE/Daily Grind partnership began in 2002 and only focused on programs in Guatemala. The restructure of this partnership substantially increases the potential for Daily Grind and its customers to make a greater impact in improving the lives of the individuals who harvest their core product.

“This is an innovative way to address the growing health care needs of coffee farmers,” said Cary Kimble, Director of Development for Project HOPE. “Through this partnership, we can help move these communities from limited access to vital healthcare to creating sustainable solutions for the prevention, treatment and management of illnesses.”

“We are honored to be partnered with such a leader in health training and education” says Daily Grind Co-Founder, Ed Chapman. “We pursued this partnership, not only because we are close neighbors geographically, but we consider them extremely effective in what they do.”

Additionally, moved by catastrophic losses along the Gulf Coast in Hurricane Katrina, Daily Grind is also supporting Project HOPE’s efforts to help restore the healthcare infrastructure in Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas by providing medicines, medical supplies and the services of volunteer healthcare professionals. Daily Grind will place collection boxes in each of its 38 locations in Virginia, West Virginia, and Maryland for customers’ donations. The company is asking franchise owners and vendors to donate to the cause, and is currently analyzing the amount it will be able to pledge.
